“Thank you.” Here is an expression of appreciation that is never outdated––yet often neglected in person and in cover letters.

According to 19th century American writer, Minna Antrim.
“Gratitude is the rosemary of the heart.”

If you sprinkle your cover letter with a dash of ‘rosemary’ an interviewer will not easily forget you. Why? Because you will be among the few who are more concerned with gratitude than greed, who think about others before self. This small addition to any cover letter will make a big difference in how you are viewed for a potential job.

How Can You Best Say ‘Thank you’ Within Your Cover Letter?

Use clear and simple words to convey your appreciation for the opportunity to be considered for the job you’re interested in. Examples:

1.    Thank you for taking a moment to consider my cover letter and resume. I can imagine how busy you are.

2.    I appreciate the time you give to prospective employees such as myself. I hope we can meet in person to discuss how I can contribute to your company.

3.    I welcome a chance to talk with you about my skills and your expectations. Thank you for this opportunity to hear what you look for in an employee.

4.    I’m grateful for the application guidelines you provided. I’d like to express my thanks in person for making it easy for me to introduce myself and my skills to you and to learn more about your organization.

Tuck into each of your cover letters choice words of thanks without being gushy or sentimental. By making gratitude a high priority, you will be recognized and succeed.
