Get Along With Others

Second, you need to get along with others. You spend more time at your workplace than you do at home, so you might become very close friends with some of your work mates. You also might not like some of them. This could lead to complaining or gossiping about some of your co-workers, or worse yet, your job and your employer. A piece of advise, “..make it your aim to live quietly and to mind your own business.” This not only makes for better working conditions but you will avoid wasting your employer’s time and possibly causing needless friction with your co-workers.

Go the Extra Mile

Thirdly, do more than is expected. if you want to keep your job, you can set yourself apart from the “pack” by doing each task assigned the very best you can. The greatest man who ever lived said, “If someone under authority impresses you into service for a mile, go with him two miles.” If you have a reputation of being a hard worker–one who will go the extra mile–you will be more likely to keep your job, even if others may lose theirs.

Be Honest

Fourth, be honest. In a survey of over 1,400 companies, the majority of employers “ranked honesty and integrity as qualities that impress them most in job candidates.” Of course that would include the obvious things like not stealing money or materials from the job. But even more important is not stealing your employer’s time. An employment agency conducted a study that revealed that time theft averaged over four hours per employee per week. These employees tended to be late, leave early, and socialized with other employees while they should have been working.

Even if your boss is not looking, chances are someone is, and that person just might be your next supervisor or a person in a position to decide if you keep your job. If you have a reputation for working well–even when not supervised–you are an employee to be trusted, and one the company will want to keep.

Be Organized

Fifth, be organized. If you are organized and keep your workspace neat, you are less likely to lose time looking for things you need, or more importantly the things your employer might need. A neat workspace is a time saver and saves your company money. And you can be sure others will notice. Besides, if you organized and know how to quickly locate things, you will have less stress and enjoy your work more.

Things change quickly. Mergers and mismanagement cause businesses to close every day. Other companies, due to economic downturns, are forced to reduce their number of employees either temporarily or possibly even permanently. Then your employer will be forced to decide who will go and who will stay. If you have made the above suggestions your personal habits as an employee, you are more likely to be one of the ones your employer considers to be a “keeper.” When pay increases are considered, these same habits will bring you more increases than others with your same job skills.

If someone were to ask me what the top ten hottest careers are these days, I would probably be able to give that person quite a few suggestions.

After all, there is opportunity everywhere you go. If your drive is strong enough, you’ll quickly be able to forge quite a rewarding career, no matter where you are at the moment.

Besides, many factors come into play. Being involved in one of the top ten hottest careers doesn’t just mean a great salary. It also means being happy with what you’re doing, achieving continuous personal growth, and settling in your ideal work environment.

Here is a mini compilation I’ve made of careers that make the grade. These 10 careers are grouped into 3 categories:

1) Medical Affairs (Doctors, Gynecologists, Psychiatrists)

Whatever medical field you venture into, as long as you’re good at what you do, it will pay well.

Obviously, this falls into my list of the top ten hottest careers because of the salary. However, salary is not the only motivator for this career. No day is the same. You don’t get the same patients everyday, and you don’t get the same results all the time.

But many people are interested to pursue a field in medicine because it is an incredible feeling to have helped someone get over their health problem or improve their quality of life.

Not everyone can jump into the world of medicine though. It takes years of study and a certain level of intelligence to penetrate it.

2) Technology (Computer System Analysts, Computer Software Engineers, Computer Programmers)

Technology – and all the components that come with it – is relatively young compared to other fields like medicine. There is so much to discover and so much to improve upon. That’s why this group is included in our top ten hottest careers.

Technology is an ever-growing field that makes a career in it one of the fastest-growing in the whole world. Everybody needs technology to make it in this modern era. Just think about how fast mobile phones upgrade or how many generations of iPod have been released in the last couple of years.

We could have hidden strengths that only reveal themselves when the need arises. Introverts might do well in a career in sales. How will we know what we will excel in unless we get the chance to dabble in it.

It might sometimes seem that we will lead happier lives if we stick to what we think are our strengths and what we are most comfortable with. Yet part of us will always remain unsatisfied if we limit our horizons because we feel we need to conform. It could be that one day we wake up feeling great regret that we have missed out on opportunities. This is one thing we would want to avoid at all costs.

While growing up we depend on our parents to look after our survival needs. Over time we learn to cope with the demands life gives us. Our survival skills can only get us so far in the adult world. We simply carry on and endure but often we become aware of our anxieties.

We need to be careful that the choice of the career wasn’t based solely on the need to be able to get through day by day. It is important to overcome our fears. We need courage to find what fits our desires rather than what makes us feel safe. Courage is what is needed when choosing a career.
