<p>So if you want to know how to become an effective salesperson, you&#8217;d better start with your clientele. But how exactly do you go about it? What is the proper salesperson protocol?</p>

<p>Look no further because I&#8217;m going to show you some proven tips on how to close lots of sales and get past customers to buy from you again and again.</p>
<p><strong>1) Always be friendly and polite.</strong></p>
<p>As a salesperson, you&#8217;re expected to talk to a lot of people in a day. However, you&#8217;re also expected to treat each and every person as if they are your first customer for the day.</p>
<p>Even though you&#8217;ve explained the mechanics of your product for the hundredth time already, remain friendly and polite. Display enthusiasm when talking about your company. A smile goes a long way.</p>
<p><strong>2) Give quality service.</strong></p>

<p>Having a good game face and attitude helps you become an effective salesperson. After all, nobody wants to do business with someone who doesn&#8217;t have a clear idea on what they are selling.</p>

<p>To be a good salesperson or marketer, you will need to master different sales negotiation skills. These skills serve as your weapons against other negotiators and difficult customers. You&#8217;ll need them to land today&#8217;s sales and ensure future ones as well.</p>
<p>As long as you have good sales negotiation skills, you&#8217;ll be able to meet your daily quota. Having such abilities can also come in handy in different situations as well. Here are some of those important skills and how you can develop them.<br />
<strong><br />
Sales Negotiation Skills # 1: Building Rapport</strong></p>
<p><span id="more-6966"></span></p>
<p>This means getting your clients to trust you and feel more at ease with you. I cannot tell you the number of times customers often choose good sales negotiators over good prices.</p>
<p>A person of an unpleasant countenance with a good-priced product is no match for a person of nice manners with a slightly-more-expensive product. If the client can afford the slightly-more-pleasant product, they will buy that instead.</p>
<p>So how do you develop this skill? Copy the actions and words of your counterpart. If they use their hands when speaking, do the same. If they use the words &#8220;gorgeous&#8221; or &#8220;awesome&#8221; often, include those words when you&#8217;re talking to them. However, do this tactic subtly, where they won&#8217;t notice that you&#8217;re intentionally doing such actions.</p>
<p>This is very powerful because you&#8217;re subconsciously implying that you&#8217;re very much like them; and as you probably already know, people tend to trust and like those who are similar to them in some ways.</p>
<p><strong>Sales Negotiation Skills # 2: Knowing How To Say &#8220;No&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>Sometimes, you can say, &#8220;Let me ask my supervisor,&#8221; or &#8220;I&#8217;ll see what I can do&#8221; to give clients the impression that you&#8217;re doing your best to meet their demands. However, it&#8217;s also important to note that some instances require you to say &#8220;no&#8221; outright.</p>
<p>When you know that their request will be impossible to grant, don&#8217;t dilly dally any longer. Don&#8217;t waste your time and your client&#8217;s time if you&#8217;re absolutely certain that their request will not be allowed.</p>
<p>Quite surprisingly, many people find it difficult to say &#8220;no&#8221; to others. To strengthen your resolve, you&#8217;re going to have to think through all your decisions before saying &#8220;yes&#8221; to all of them. This way, the word won&#8217;t feel too alien on your tongue.</p>
<p>To avoid any hard feelings, make it look like saying &#8220;no&#8221; was a matter of circumstance, not of choice. They will then associate the rejection on the situation, and not on you or your product.<br />
<strong><br />
Sales Negotiation Skills # 3: Being a Good Listener.</strong></p>
<p>Even if you think you&#8217;ve heard it a million times, listen like this is the first time you&#8217;re hearing it. Being a good listener shows that you respect your clients. It will also give you valuable hints on what your customer is looking for.</p>
<p>To develop your listening skills, I suggest clearing your mind of any other thoughts and maintaining eye contact so you can focus solely on the person talking.</p>
<p>Everyone can do better with these sales negotiation skills. So even if you&#8217;re not in the industry, I suggest you adopt these skills to help you overcome some of your weaknesses.</p>

That is unless you make yourself stand out from the &#8220;crowd.&#8221; </strong></p>
<p>There are five basic keys to keeping the job you have. Even if it is one you don&#8217;t enjoy, you can use that position as a launching pad for your ideal position in the future by using these suggestions.</p>
<p><span id="more-6618"></span></p>
<p><strong>Communicate Effectively </strong></p>
<p>First, you need to be able to communicate well. As one of the Proverbs says, &#8220;When anyone is replying to a matter before he hears it, that is foolishness on his part&#8230;&#8221; That means that listening closely to your employer and to your co-workers can prevent misunderstandings and keep you from making foolish mistakes that could cause you problems and unnecessary stress.</p>
<p>Also, you need to speak so that you can be heard and understood. You need to speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard, but not too loud so as to appear that you are angry or trying to show authority over your co-workers. If you do this, it is more likely that you will be understood, and others, including your employer, will have more respect for you and more likely to listen to what you have to say.<br />
<strong><br />
Get Along With Others </strong></p>
<p>Second, you need to get along with others. You spend more time at your workplace than you do at home, so you might become very close friends with some of your work mates. You also might not like some of them. This could lead to complaining or gossiping about some of your co-workers, or worse yet, your job and your employer. A piece of advise, &#8220;..make it your aim to live quietly and to mind your own business.&#8221; This not only makes for better working conditions but you will avoid wasting your employer&#8217;s time and possibly causing needless friction with your co-workers.</p>
<p><strong>Go the Extra Mile </strong></p>
<p>Thirdly, do more than is expected. if you want to keep your job, you can set yourself apart from the &#8220;pack&#8221; by doing each task assigned the very best you can. The greatest man who ever lived said, &#8220;If someone under authority impresses you into service for a mile, go with him two miles.&#8221; If you have a reputation of being a hard worker&#8211;one who will go the extra mile&#8211;you will be more likely to keep your job, even if others may lose theirs.<br />
<strong><br />
Be Honest </strong></p>
<p>Fourth, be honest. In a survey of over 1,400 companies, the majority of employers &#8220;ranked honesty and integrity as qualities that impress them most in job candidates.&#8221; Of course that would include the obvious things like not stealing money or materials from the job. But even more important is not stealing your employer&#8217;s time. An employment agency conducted a study that revealed that time theft averaged over four hours per employee per week. These employees tended to be late, leave early, and socialized with other employees while they should have been working.</p>
<p>Even if your boss is not looking, chances are someone is, and that person just might be your next supervisor or a person in a position to decide if you keep your job. If you have a reputation for working well&#8211;even when not supervised&#8211;you are an employee to be trusted, and one the company will want to keep.<br />
<strong><br />
Be Organized </strong></p>
<p>Fifth, be organized. If you are organized and keep your workspace neat, you are less likely to lose time looking for things you need, or more importantly the things your employer might need. A neat workspace is a time saver and saves your company money. And you can be sure others will notice. Besides, if you organized and know how to quickly locate things, you will have less stress and enjoy your work more.</p>
<p><strong><br />
Bottom Line </strong></p>
<p>Things change quickly. Mergers and mismanagement cause businesses to close every day. Other companies, due to economic downturns, are forced to reduce their number of employees either temporarily or possibly even permanently. Then your employer will be forced to decide who will go and who will stay. If you have made the above suggestions your personal habits as an employee, you are more likely to be one of the ones your employer considers to be a &#8220;keeper.&#8221; When pay increases are considered, these same habits will bring you more increases than others with your same job skills.</p>
<p>So, enjoy your work and use it to build a reputation as the one your employer can always count on to take direction, work well with others, be organized and not a time-waster. That will make your day at work much more enjoyable and help you keep your job when others are losing theirs.</p>

<p><strong>Myth 1: No one is hiring. </strong><br />
Layoffs are coming in every direction, but some employers &#8212; even those laying off workers &#8212; are still hiring. Companies often eliminate full-time employees with budget-busting benefits only to replace them with contractors or consultants to save costs. Additionally, &#8220;green&#8221; jobs, and <a href="http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/jobs-c-Healthcare" target="_blank">health care jobs</a> are among those still actively populating want ads. And, the pay is respectable. For instance, Payscale.com shows the median annual salary of an environmental engineer with 3-5 years experience is $60,672.</p>

The Internet is an efficient way to survey jobs among many companies, but personal interaction is still key to job search success. Truth is, employers are bombarded with thousands of resumes from the Internet &#8212; especially in a recession. Therefore, the chance that your new boss will choose your <a href="http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/resume" target="_blank">resume</a> out of a pile of prospects is slimmer than ever. Instead, focus on <a href="http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/jobs">finding a position</a>, apply for it, and then do some research and connect personally with a hiring manager in the company to follow-up. Social networking sites, such as LinkedIn, also offer a great way to connect with targeted employees on your company dream list. These connections are golden because they can give you insider info about unpublished positions and help you sail past HR &#8220;blockers.&#8221; Personal recommendations go much farther in landing a job than random resumes.</p>
<p><strong>Myth 3: Searching companies in hiring freezes is a waste of time.</strong><br />
Like many situations in life, hiring freezes are not absolute. Savvy networking, the right face-to-face meeting, and the ability to sell skills critical to the prospective company can be the perfect formula for lighting a fire under an employer in a hiring freeze. <p><strong>Myth 5: Companies are not interested in hiring people over age 55.</strong><br />
There are several reasons Challenger, Gray &amp; Christmas disputes the adage that older employees are unemployable. In a struggling economy, employers value seasoned workers&#8217; shorter learning curves (aka: less money invested in employee training) and their ability to do the work of several younger, less-seasoned workers. While experience and education have their plusses, they aren&#8217;t guarantees to landing a job. In a deep recession, experienced and degreed people come a dime a dozen. &#8220;It is very important to sell your world experience, your concrete accomplishments, and expertise; things that make an impact on the company rather than just your knowledge,&#8221; Challenger says. Research what skills the employer values most in order to tailor your sales pitch accordingly, Challenger adds. And, because the market is so tight, though you are experienced, someone with more experience is likely applying for the same job. Take time to create your brand image and sell, sell, sell!</p>
