Depending on your age, you probably remember when pre employment background screening meant that someone checked to be sure that your past job listings are accurate and they may have called a few of your references. Some places would confirm your education, but not all of them were as concerned about that point. Those were the simple days and you always knew what to expect through that type of background screening. Things have changed, and the laws keep changing. These are the things business owners must keep up with today.
The first time I was aware that things were changing was when I went to apply for a job at a bank. I would not have been handling money in any way, shape, or form, as it was a job for an executive assistant. However, when going over what they did for pre employment background screening, they asked me to sign a paper allowing them to find and review my credit report.

It is lot of difficulty when they try to sit down and think of what they want to do with their lives. A lot of the time they will have a lot of options in front of them, and they may not be able to decide which direction to go in. They can be experiencing a lot of pressure from friends or maybe some pressure from their family to follow along in the footsteps of their parents or other siblings and join the family business. Or maybe they are told to go into a career that will make sure that they will be getting paid a lot so that t they will be able to support themselves and not have to depend on their parents or other family members to get the aid they need to live on their own.
The earth sciences may not seem that interesting to many people who may be considering a boring career in business, but there is a lot of exciting and interesting work being done by people in the field of earth science. Consider that everything in the business world depends on these sciences to function on its level every day, and although most of the people in these businesses may not realize that they depend so much on the earth and its materials, there are those who do realize that everything that they do depends on the earth they live on and the material resources that it offers as well as the complex processes that it undergoes. These people understand the power of knowledge and they are more successful because they not only have a detailed understanding of the minute details of their specific operation and their role in the scheme of things, but they also have a sense of the larger picture, of the complex environment that they are part of and the systems that they belong to.

Want to Make Your Job Easier? Just Ask!

But, do those really make life easier? And what if you aren’t the Grand Who-Hah who can launch those types of major initiatives…what do you do then?
One of the most often overlooked methods for making work easier, is to simply ask for help. Why is it that we find it so hard to simply ask for help? For some it is a concern that you will look deficient if you need to ask for help. But in not asking for help, you get overwhelmed, you under-deliver results, and end up looking deficient anyway. While the person who asks for help makes their job look effortless and sails on to victory after victory. Also, many of us get so hung up in delivering results on our own that we don’t ever think about who we would ask for help, we assume they might be too busy to help and don’t know what we would ask for even if we did attempt to get help.
